About Us:
Career Programs for Individuals
Research on job satisfaction shows that many people would like their work to be more personally and professionally gratifying. Many would like to obtain or advance to positions/occupations that more accurately reflect their personal and professional needs, the things they value, and the skills they have or want to develop. When these are part of our work life, we experience more satisfaction, personal enrichment, and confidence in our work and ourselves. When they are missing, work may become routine, unchallenging, and job dissatisfaction occurs. This dissatisfaction may also spill over into other life areas of the individual.
Unfortunately many people enter occupations or make career decisions without proper reflection or guidance on these important issues. And many only realize this once work has become a source of discontent and/or personal distress.
The programs offered at PSI are designed to assist individuals in obtaining work that is satisfying and which may lead to greater career mobility. Whether you have worked a significant period of time in one field or are looking for a new career, our small group workshops, individual services, and training programs will help you define and establish career and personal goals and improve professional development.
Career Assessment and Career Counseling
The Career Assessment program uses valid and reliable assessment instruments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory to facilitate career decision-making, career mobility, and job fit.
Our program in Career Assessment will assist you in identifying skills, interests, needs and values that matter to you, before making work-related decisions. You will reassess your goals, ambitions, and major sources of professional satisfaction. Through testing, you will also learn how your personality style affects your relationships at work and in non-work environments.
Our Career Counseling services will help you to negotiate the personal, professional, and life-style issues affecting career decision-making. They will assist you in developing strategies for obtaining work that is meaningful to you, and they will help you to develop the job-search skills needed to accomplish your goals.
Career Change Seminars
The Career Change Seminars consist of a series of workshops conducted in a supportive, small group setting over a period of six to seven weeks. The seminar will meet one night a week and is lead by an experienced and skilled career counselor. The purpose of this program is to assist participants in making transitions into meaningful, gratifying careers. It is designed for adults in professional and nonprofessional occupations who are:
- Currently unemployed and looking to maximize the job search process.
- Currently working, but exploring the likelihood of an alternative career.
- Interested in establishing a better "fit" between the types of work they do, and the type of work they would like to do.
Participants will learn to:
- Effectively manage the personal and practical aspects of career transitions.
- Define career interests, skills, values, and their relation to job satisfaction.
- Make career decisions suitable to individual needs and work that is valued.
- Research and develop job opportunities and prepare for interviews.
The Professional Development Program
