Koshin Paley Ellison, MFA, LMSW
Koshin Paley Ellison, MFA, LMSW, is a Founding Director of the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care and the Buddhist Psychotherapy Collective. He is on the clinical staff of the Psychotherapy & Spirituality Institute and where he has his Faculty Practice where he sees individuals, couples, and groups. Koshin works as a chaplain at Cabrini Medical Center & Hospice. Since 2002, he has led the weekly meditation practice at Beth Israel’s Continuum Center for Health & Healing. Koshin began Zen practice in 1988, and he continues to be a student and novice Zen Buddhist priest under Roshi Enkyo O’Hara, at the Village Zendo. He teaches workshops on meditation, grief and loss, and addiction and spirituality in a variety of settings from public school classrooms to corporations.
His expertise is in the following areas:
- Helping clients find true courage in the midst of the difficulties in everyday life
- Companioning clients with the psychological issues of wellness & illness, grief & loss, childhood & adult trauma, anxiety & depression
- Guiding clients in the integration of spirituality & sexuality
- Working with clients to rediscover their vitality & creativity
- Assisting couples to reconnect in order to resolve difficulties in a constructive & inclusive way
- Exploring unconscious material through dream work and Sandplay
