About Us
Gary Hellman, M.Div.

Gary HellmanGary Hellman is a New York State licensed mental health practitioner, a licensed psychoanalyst and a certified group psychotherapist of the American Group Psychotherapy Association. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and has been practicing psychotherapy since 1975.

Hellman is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and served in the American Peace Corps in India. He graduated from General Theological Seminary in New York City and was ordained Episcopal priest in 1973. He trained and was certified in individual psychotherapy, marriage and family therapy and group psychotherapy at the Blanton-Peale Institute in New York City in 1978. 

Hellman served on the board of the Blanton Peale Institute and was the founding director of the Grace Counseling Center in Madison New Jersey from 1984 to 1991. He became the President of The Counseling and Human Development Center in New York City in 1991 and led the board and staff to reposition CHDC as the Psychotherapy & Spirituality Institute, Inc. in 1997.

Through out his career he has worked to integrate the practices of spirituality and psychotherapy engaging many community organizations to further those goals. He has served to support the Temple of Understanding to promote interfaith collaboration among all faiths.
